Webbsome storage devices have a failure mode where they slow down before total failure, giving people a chance to back data before it dies. ssd failure is common they dont last as long as hdd's the have a limited amount of write cycles before they go kuput. i think there are ways to test for it, but idk a program at the top of my head.
